The Gdańsk Christmas Market came second in the European Best Christmas Market 2023 competition. More than 48 thousand internet users voted for us!
From 25 November to 8 December, residents of 179 countries cast a total of 374,803 votes. A significant proportion of the votes cast in the competition came from internet users in the United Kingdom, the United States and the Netherlands.
This year, first place was awarded to the Christmas market in Budapest, which won more than 51 thousand votes. Third place went to the market in Craiova, Romania, with almost 42 thousand votes.\
Just off the podium came Vienna, which received 40,717 votes. Montbéliard in France, with 32,011 votes, took 5th place in the ranking, rounding out the top five best Christmas markets in Europe.
About the Market
The Christmas Market, located in the historic centre of beautiful Gdańsk, is like something out of a fairy tale. It captivates tourists and residents of the Tricity alike. Its unique atmosphere is created above all by original, mood-setting scenery.
The leading role in the market's setting is played by an atmosphere of joy, love and festive magic, seasoned with a unique orchestra of unmistakable scents, flavours, sounds and colours.
This special time, full of charm and friendly moments, will continue until 23 December.
For the duration of the Market, the streets of Gdańsk's historic centre have been transformed into a festive little town thanks to beautiful illuminations. This is thanks in part to the partner supporting the Gdańsk market – the GPEC Group, sponsor of Gdańsk's illuminations.
Atmospheric decorations, stalls with unusual products and a rich artistic programme, including creative workshops organised by the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Gdańsk, mean that the festive atmosphere has been hanging over Gdańsk since the first snowfall.
The market hosts 155 stalls offering unique gifts, decorations and treats. There was no shortage of regional products made using carefully preserved family recipes: unique handicrafts, home decorations, natural cosmetics, warm winter accessories and warming spices.
A visit to the Christmas Market is a must for Gdańsk residents and tourists from Poland and around the world when it comes to pre-Christmas preparations. In the atmospheric surroundings, with carols playing, it's impossible not to feel the shared warmth and closeness of the approaching holidays.
The Gdańsk Christmas Market undoubtedly plays the leading role!
