The Christmas Market in Gdańsk began
This year’s edition of the Christmas Market in Gdańsk began with a spectacular parade on Saturday. The colorful procession was attended by the inhabitants, inhabitants of Gdańsk in old medieval costumes, merchants and drummers. Christmas stalls will be open until December 23.
– The most beautiful time of the year begins, the time of beautiful Christmas scents, wonderful dishes, beautiful decorations for the Christmas tree and for our homes. Crafts that you can also buy here at this fair. But most of all, meeting other people. It is a time of conversation to look each other in the eye, where we can also forgive each other for all our sins that we have done to each other. It is a beautiful time when we also sit down to a common table with our guests – said the Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk, Piotr Grzelak, at the ceremonial opening of the Christmas Market in Gdańsk.
The gingerbread parade, referring to the traditions associated with “Katarzynki” customs, marched along the stalls set up at Targ Węglowy. And all in a unique Christmas scenery.
– This year it will be a special time, because our guests from Ukraine will also sit at our tables. Let’s welcome them warmly, let’s welcome them very warmly and let’s create such a home for them as far as it is possible to create such a home outside of Ukraine. Let’s also think about all those who are missing this home warmth at the moment. May the near future bring peace to the world and peace to Ukraine, added the vice-president of Gdańsk.
World cuisine at the Fair
– I am very happy that among the delicacies from around the world and among the stands that you will be able to visit here, more than 50% are the stands of Gdańsk restaurateurs. I wish you all a wonderful time of preparation for Christmas. Let’s have fun, let’s rejoice and, above all, think about other people – said the vice-president of Gdańsk, Piotr Grzelak.
For gourmets visiting the fair, apart from classic Christmas delicacies, dishes from cuisines from all over the world await. This year, the offer will be particularly rich, because from as many as 20 countries, including Japanese, Thai and Crimean-Turkish cuisine. You will be able to try dishes from Lithuania, America, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Ukraine, Italy, Turkey and Poland. Seekers of winter flavors will try currywursts, churros, langoustines, kurtosz, fries, casseroles, Christmas dumplings and aromatic mulled wine.
Culinary novelties will include brioches with ice, crispy tofu, raclette, shrimp skewers, tempura oscypek cheese, quesadillas, cinnamon rolls and vegan bigos.

This year, the Gdańsk fair was once again nominated in the competition for the title of “European Best Christmas Market”.

In line with this year’s slogan “Let Christmas play!” the fair scene will sound with different types of music. During the cyclical concerts of “Jazowy Kolędowanie” well-known musicians from the Tri-City will perform, during “Caroling for voices” you will be able to admire the extraordinary craftsmanship of Christmas songs and carols performed by choirs, during “Joyful Carolling” you will be able to feel the power and energy of young performers, and you will feel nostalgic ” Carillon Caroling”.
“Christmas Freeze Frames” fair set design is the perfect background to capture fleeting moments in commemorative photographs. In addition to the extremely popular last year, the shining throne of St. Santa there will be premieres! Illuminated inscription Fair in winter, angel wings for adults and children, sleighs with gifts, a gazebo and a fountain. Posing for photos together will be St. Santa Claus, giant candy canes or decorative baubles and our business cards – the mascots Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Orzechowscy, i.e. the fair’s Nutcracker and Granny.
The moose has a voice
The undisputed star of the fair is the moose Lucek, who speaks with a human voice! It has been entertaining visitors to the Christmas Market for several years and its popularity is still growing. He is waiting for his fans in Łosiowe corner on ul. Bogusławski, guarantees traditional elk biscuits.
