The Temporary Hospital in Gdańsk, established under a decision of the Minister of Health, began medical operations on 19 January at the AMBEREXPO facility and ceased operations at the end of March 2022.
The facility was prepared to hold 320 places for patients infected with COVID-19 and was dedicated to residents of Pomerania (including 20 intensive care places). In addition to internal medicine beds, there was an admissions point and radiology, giving patients 24-hour access to diagnostic tests (705 tests were carried out). Each bed had access to oxygen and vacuum suction, and had a monitoring and call system.
Over more than two months, the hospital admitted 559 patients. The average length of a patient's stay was 8 days. Throughout the operation of the Temporary Hospital, patient care was provided by 70 doctors, 130 nurses, 30 paramedics, 11 X-ray/electroradiology technicians, 12 receptionists, 100 orderlies/KPP paramedics, and 45 members of the hygiene team.
The reopening of the hospital eased the burden on other facilities and prevented further wards from being converted into COVID wards, thereby avoiding the cancellation of planned procedures.
The Temporary Hospital in Gdańsk first began operating on 8 March 2021 and, over four months of operation, admitted 808 patients (including 90 patients who stayed in the Intensive Care Unit). The average length of stay was 11 days.
