A symbolic moment on Żaglowa Street: the topping-out wreath raised over the AMBEREXPO hotel

A topping-out wreath has been raised on the hotel under construction next to AMBEREXPO, symbolically marking the completion of a key stage of the build. The building, which has now taken on its full shape and is entering the finishing phase, is due to open in the second half of 2026.

– This investment forms part of the City of Gdańsk's strategy: we are creating a sustainable tourism and meetings industry system that operates all year round, not just seasonally – emphasises Piotr Grzelak, Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk for Sustainable Development and Economy.

From the outset, the aim was to create a building that would harmoniously complement the existing AMBEREXPO infrastructure. The new hotel, together with the hall and entrance zone, will form a functional, logically connected complex serving both trade fairs and business events.

– The new MTG hall has already shown its potential during its first events, offering excellent acoustics and modern solutions. The construction of the hotel complements this offer, allowing us to strengthen Gdańsk's appeal as a venue for conferences, trade fairs and business meetings. I congratulate Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie on its intelligent, well-considered approach – this is an example of action in the spirit of a smart city – adds Piotr Grzelak.

The building under construction, with five hotel floors, will accommodate 168 comfortable rooms. The hotel will be a three-star property operating under one of the ibis family's brands – ibis Styles – part of the global Accor group.

– The 21st century is a time of dynamic development for Pomerania – our region has never developed as intensively as it does today. One of the key tools supporting this development is Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie, which consistently builds Pomerania's potential – says Leszek Bonna, Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The procedure to select the general contractor for the investment, worth PLN 147 million, began in July last year. The company NDI is responsible for carrying out the works – both on the hotel, on which the topping-out wreath has just been raised, and previously on the new Hall D.

– We recently completed construction of the new hall, and today we are working on the hotel, which is both an honour and a responsibility for us. I would like to thank everyone involved: the investor for their trust, the local authorities for their support, and the funders for their key contribution to delivering the project. The topping-out is a celebration for the builders, so I would especially like to thank everyone who works on this investment every day: the investor's teams, inspectors, designers, our partners, contractors and suppliers. And above all, I thank the NDI team – for their

professionalism, determination and tremendous commitment – says Małgorzata Winiarek-Gajewska, President of NDI.

The hotel is being built in harmony with the existing AMBEREXPO infrastructure. In the new foyer space, the ceiling will be higher than in the existing buildings, and the entrance zone will be complemented by a fountain beneath the stairs and greenery.

The shareholder that provided capital for the expansion of the AMBEREXPO complex is the Polish Development Fund. The financial partner for the investment is Bank PEKAO SA.

– The Polish Development Fund has supported local government investments for years, and those carried out by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie are among the key projects for us in the region. Last year we decided to recapitalise the company precisely so that it could continue to develop dynamically – and this development potential is what matters most to us. Thanks to such initiatives, Gdańsk and Pomerania are gaining a chance for further growth in business tourism and year-round events – adds Mikołaj Raczyński, Vice-President of PFR.

– We had been preparing this project since before the pandemic. I am very grateful for the trust shown, including by the financial institutions and our owner. For the fact that we managed to prove that this business plan and idea, despite carrying risks, earned the trust of PEKAO SA, which backed us strongly, including on the entire debt refinancing – says Andrzej Bojanowski, President of Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie.

– NDI is one of ours, because it's from Pomerania, because we have done many things together. I hope these are not the last, and that we will do more. I am convinced that this partnership, this trust that we all share, will only ever generate success – adds Andrzej Bojanowski.
