Another edition of the District Markets is under way!
The markets will run at two well-established locations. In the Orunia Górna – Gdańsk Południe district, stalls will be set up in the car park of the Łostowice – Świętokrzyska bus and tram terminus, by the ZTM Customer Service Point. Meanwhile, residents of Piecki-Migowo will be able to shop at the square at the junction of Bulońska Street and Rakoczego Street.
A wealth of local produce
As always, the stalls will offer fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit, bread, free-range eggs and a wide range of other products. Visitors to the markets will also be able to buy ready-made deli meals, honey, and even traditional meat and dairy products.
Goods come from local farmers and producers from Gdańsk and the surrounding area, as well as from other parts of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Regular meetings throughout the season
The district markets will run regularly for most of the year – from 11 April until 14 November – every Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00.
It is worth noting, however, that the markets will not operate on the following Saturdays: 2 May, 15 August and 31 October. Importantly for everyone who loves shopping directly from farmers, the markets will also run throughout the summer holidays, in response to numerous requests from residents.
An initiative supported by district councils
The district markets are an initiative aimed at enabling as many Gdańsk residents as possible to buy fresh produce directly from local and regional farmers, and to promote homegrown producers. The project is run in cooperation with the district councils – the "Piecki-Migowo Market" is supported by the Piecki-Migowo District Council and the "Morena" Tenant-Ownership Housing Cooperative, while the "Łostowice Świętokrzyska Terminus Market" is supported by the Orunia Górna – Gdańsk Południe District Council.
The technical side of the venture is handled by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie, which, as in previous years, provides exhibitors with attractive market stalls.
Alternative places to shop
For those unable to get to the markets in Piecki-Migowo or Orunia Górna, there are other ways to shop directly from farmers. Throughout the year, on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 to 15:00, trade in agricultural and food products takes place on Gościnna Street in the Orunia-Św. Wojciech-Lipce district.
The return of the district markets is excellent news for all residents who value fresh, local produce and direct contact with the people who make it. This initiative not only supports local farmers and producers, but also helps bring local communities together, creating a space for neighbourly meetings and conversations during the weekly shop.
