This year’s edition of Wybrzeże Sztuki is a story about living with something that is not entirely our own. About attempts – sometimes failed – not to live solely someone else’s life. About an awareness that does not undo the past, but can change what happens next. About the place in between – before something is repeated, and before something can be interrupted.
The 13th edition of the Wybrzeże Sztuki Festival coincides with the 80th anniversary of Teatr Wybrzeże. Among the productions invited to the festival, as well as in selected premieres of this season, we want to draw on the rich history of Teatr Wybrzeże. Hence the Festival repertoire features performances such as Ulisses and Termopile polskie. Both of these titles were staged at Teatr Wybrzeże in 1970: Ulisses was directed by the then artistic director Zygmunt Hübner, and Miciński’s drama had its premiere at our theatre thanks to the adaptation by Stanisław Hebanowski and the direction of Marek Okopiński. In 2026 we will confront these works once again through the productions of Michał Borczuch and Jan Klata.
We regard this gesture as a way of cultivating our cultural heritage, for it is bound up with the memory of our theatrical experiences.
